December has arrived and with it, the anticipated days of rest, peace and love. This year, however, I am a little sceptical writing these words. For many, this year was perhaps more difficult than expected. We were hit by an economic crisis in the early months, leaving a mark in our everyday lives. Very probably, it will make itself felt before Christmas. Many a family will realise that it cannot get the kids the presents they wished for. And the manufacturers will attack you with even fiercer advertisement to grab your attention. The crisis has also meant more people on the verge of poverty and need. I feel very bad about the fact that children are affected too. Who else if not children deserves Christmas as a time of peace and happiness?
That is why I hope that in spite of all the December hustle, each of us finds a moment to remember those who most need our help. Little may be enough – I remember to take a stroll through Prague Castle every year, where there is a moneybox for donations to orphans by the Christmas tree behind the St.Vitus Cathedral. Thus, I always combine a lovely walk with a helpful task. Similar events are held not only by non-profits, but shopping malls as well. So you really don’t have to walk far, and giving away a few coins on the way shopping won’t cost you either. Quite the opposite, maybe you’ll then enjoy Christmas not only thanks to the nice moments with your family, but also the knowledge that you have helped someone who needs it badly.
Merry Christmas from ESTATE magazine.
